In a twist of generosity, officials yesterday allowed the use of golf carts in the Konica Minolta Pro-Am Golf Championship at The Riviera’s Langer in Silang, Cavite.
“We will now allow the use of golf carts but only to pros 60 years old and above,” said Commo. Danny Pizarro (ret.), chairman of the organizing committee and vice president of the organizing National Golf Association of the Philippines (NGAP). “Even amateurs may use golf carts if they so desire.”
The tournament, sponsored by U-Bix Corporation through its president and chairman Edilberto Bravo, will be held March 5-8 at The Riviera’s Langer in Silang, Cavite.
“I like the new rule,” said Bravo, who almost single-handedly revived the event in 2001 in partnership with the NGAP. “Why make it difficult for our players? Golf is a game already difficult enough to play, especially to our pros who do not have time on their side.”
The Celebrity Pro-Am on March 5 will stake a Toyota car in the event sponsored by San Miguel Beer, Philippine Airlines, Grappa’s, ServiceMaster Services, S-Yard, Pivo Praha, Epson Printers, Stradcom Corporation, Pagcor, Bank of Commerce, Brother Office Equipment, Riso Digital Duplicators, BPI, Metrobank, KM Bizhub, RCBC, Landbank and Unionbank.
Toyota Motor Philippines will put up another car in the tournament proper.
