Booters bolster Dapitan golden splurge in MYG

- Joey Villar -
Dapitan reigned supreme in football in a follow-up to its 22-gold-medal splurge in pool events yesterday in the fifth Manila Youth Games held at a makeshift field fronting the Quirino Grandstand at the Rizal Park.

Dapitan trounced Ka Maynila 1, 2-0, in the boys eight-and-under division finals to hike its gold haul to 23 in this week-long event sponsored by Converse and backed by Super Ferry, PSC, Pagcor, San Miguel Corp., Montaña Pawnshop, Globe, Milo, Air21, IntraSports and Concept Movers.

The White Whales harvested 10 gold medals in Day 1 and then added 12 more Tuesday on the strength of an amazing eight-gold medal effort by wonder girl Ingrid Illustre. They are expected to scoop up more golds when swimming resumes today at the Emilio Aguinaldo College Pool.

District 1, however, ruled Day 3 as it copped three of the five gold medals staked in football through Brgy. 110, Juan Nolasco-A and Magat Salamat High School teams.

Brgy. 110 downed Dapitan Football Camp, 2-1, to rule the 12-and-under boys section, Juan Nolasco-A slammed Juan Nolasco-B, 2-0, for the boys’ 17-and-under category while Magat Salamat whipped Aurora A. Quezon High, 2-1, in the boys 17-and-under class.

District II’s Lakandula School swept all of its three games to reign supreme in the girls’ 12-and-under division. Lakandula’s lady booters walloped Roxas de Ayala, 3-0, blasted FG Calderon, 2-0, before routing Isabelo delos Reyes, 4-0.

A total of 40 gold medals will be staked at the resumption of the pool competition while two more gold medals will be contested in high school and big league softball.

Competitions in lawn tennis and chess unfold today and the centerpiece athletics tomorrow at the Rizal Track Oval with last year’s overall champion Albert School expected to dominate once again.
