Peter Magnaye and Virgil del Mundo took different routes but produced the same results to reach the quarterfinal round of the boys singles in the JVC Open Junior Championships at SM Megamall over the weekend.
The 13-year-old Magnaye flashed awesome form and went on to complete a 21-11, 21-6 victory over Kenwart Toledo under the new rally point scoring system. The PNP bet faces Philip Escueta of RAQ4 when action in the quarterfinals of this event sponsored by JVC (Phils.), Inc. resumes on May 28 at SM Sta. Rosa.
Escueta survived teammate Jefferson Patawaran, pulling off a scary 21-16, 19-21, 21-17 win in a day stuffed with closely fought matches among the countrys top shuttlers in the 14-under division.
