Darters eye slots in World Cup

The best of the best darters lock horns in the 2005 National Singles Championship set to start Friday at the Pearl Plaza Billiards and Darts Bar in Parañaque City.

Aside from the P70,000 total cash pot, also at stake in the six-day tournament are ranking points and slots for the Philippine team to be sent to the World Cup scheduled in Perth, Australia later this year. The eliminations for the RP squad will actually take center stage on July 5 at 11:30 a.m. at the same venue.

The Chairman’s Cup classified doubles event kicks off the tournament this Friday with entry fee of P200 per darter. On July 2 and 3, the non-rated event and the women’s and men’s singles events will take place.

The Darts Council of the Philippines, the only governing body for the sport of darts in the country recognized by the World Darts Federation, has conducted a nationwide elimination system for the national pool. The pool is composed of the top 16 male and top eight female darters based on the Jan. 1, 2004 to July 4, 2005 national rankings.

Aside from these, eight male and four female darters from the Vis-Min region and four male and two female darters from Luzon determined through a selection process conducted by regional directors of the DCP were included in the pool.

The DCP, led by president Atty. Andee Arrieta, is hoping to send the best possible team representing the entire archipelago to the World Cup.
