Jenny fires another 70 but lands outside top 30

Jennifer Rosales got away with an amazing birdie-eagle start, but had an up-and-down performance the rest of the day for another two-under 70 as she remained outside the Magic 30 in the provisional leader board in the penultimate round of the Weetabix Women’s British Open Saturday.

Three bogeys on the last six holes foiled what could have been a good opportunity for the Filipina ace to move into contention for the Top 10 going into the final round of the $1.6 million championship at the Sunningdale Golf Club in Berkshire, England. Related story on A-28.

In fact, Rosales even placed 22nd in the provisional leader board in the round after going three-under with a birdie on No. 1 and an eagle on No. 2 — both par-5s.

Tied for 45th place before the round, the five-time Philippine Women’s Open champion could end up inside Top 40 as she holed up with a second straight two-under card.

Half of the field, including two-day leader Karen Stupples, had yet to finish the round at press time.

Rosales caught up with Julie Inkster, Becky Morgan, Shiho Ohyama, Nadina Taylor and Candie Kung at one-under 215 in 54 holes.

Already running 22nd after the first two holes, Rosales found herself once again tumbling down the chart with sorry back-to-back bogeys on Nos. 3 and 4.

The 25-year-old five-year LPGA Tour veteran ended the front nine at two-under with a birdie on No. 8 and seemed to build up a momentum again with a birdie-birdie start on the back nine.

Alas, she shot herself on the foot with bogey mishaps on Nos. 13. 15 and 17.

Rosales recovered her form a bit starting in the second round, making the cut at 145.
