Southwoods rules Fil-Am ladies golf

BAGUIO CITY — Manila Southwoods scored a four-day total of 471 points to clinch the premier Sunflower Flight-Fil Division title in the Fil-Am Ladies Golf Tournament here.

Riviera Golf Country & Club settled for first runner-up with 464.

The final fairway battle at Camp John Hay course between Manila Southwoods and Riviera Golf and Country Club was so tight.

But the early afternoon heavy downpour forced the tournament committee to declare the John Hay course unplayable and after nine holes Manila Southwoods was up by five points (81) against Riviera.

The tournament committee decided that since the 61 players had finished nines holes, the final round scores of each player would include the nine holes they had played.

Tracy Locsin of Manila Southwoods had 26 points after the 63rd hole to banner her team’s final nine round score of 81. Her effort also gave her the overall individual honors with a four round total of 155.

Scoring for Southwoods were Marilyn Ty (20), Florence Okiyama (19) and Glenda Da Roza (16).

Riviera GCC drew 21 from Nathalie Yu, 19s from Beth Menchaves and Rossie Guerrero and 17 from skipper Beng Ibo.

Co-host Camp John Hay carded a four-day aggregate of 489 to clinch the Chrysanthemum title (Fil). Cha Diciano and Nanette Filler each scored 19 points.

Baguio Country Club Teams 1 and 2 emerged champion and first runner-up in the Magnolia flight (Fil) with 419 and 369 points, respectively.
