UST judokas sweep UAAP competitions

University of Santo Tomas swept the judo competitions in the UAAP championships Sunday with the Tigers nipping their counterparts from De la Salle, 4-3, and the Lady Tigress besting their rivals from the University of the Philippines at the UP College of Human Kinetics gym.

Francis Lim, a fine arts sophomore, delivered the marginal victory for the Tigers as he scored a full point with a last-gasp hit against his rival to lift the team to a record sixth straight championship.

Team captain Emil de la Cerna, a graduating engineering student from Quezon City, bagged the MVP plum.

Behind Mary Joan Licup, a graduating nursing student who was adjudged the tournament’s MVP, and Kristine Castillo, a masters’ degree student and winner of the rookie of the year honors, the lady judokas dominated their rivals en route to snapping a four-year drought in the women’s play.
