UAAP: Teams to reprimand erring players

The University Athletic Association of the Phillipines (UAAP) board is leaving it up to Ateneo and Adamson U to reprimand Wesley Gonzales and Mark Abadia, respectively, for their unsportsmanlike conduct after their game last Aug. 21.

"It was the unanimous decision of the UAAP board that it will be the school officials of both Ateneo and Adamson who will take action and reprimand both (Wesley) Gonzales and (Mark) Abadia," said UAAP president Jose Capistrano Jr. of host Ateneo.

The board has also decided to start drug testing only after the government has come up with a standard procedure concerning the implementing rules and guidelines.

Capistrano, meanwhile, said the UAAP will conduct series of talks and discussions regarding the dangers of drugs in all campuses of the participating eight schools.

The National Olympic Academy of the Philippines, where Capistrano is executive director, will initiate the talks with sports medicine expert Dr. Jose Raul Canlas and former veteran internationalist Akiko Thomson as speakers.

Gonzales and Abadia almost came to blows when Gonzales tapped the Adamson ace’s nape right after the buzzers sounded in the Eagle’s 69-65 victory over the Falcons

Meanwhile, the Eagles seek to extend its amazing run to nine as it takes on lowly National University at 1:30 p.m. for the solo lead at the Big Dome. — Joey Villar
