Garcia rules Eagle Ridge tourney

-
Paolo Garcia turned back two of the club’s foremost low-handicappers in winning Class A of the recent monthly members tournament of the Eagle Ridge Golf and Country Club played at the windswept Aoki course in Gen. Trias, Cavite.

Garcia tallied a 77 then nipped Hector Miole in the countback with a better back nine score of two-over 38 while another of the regular winners, Raul Bandera, settled for third with an 81 in the tourney sponsored by Mizuno through Master Sports Inc.

The other divisions were just as closely-fought Danilo Olanosa (Class B), Manolo Antonil (Class C), Roger Mercado (Class D) and Sachiko Ikeda (ladies) coming out on top by the skin of their teeth.

Olanosa edged Jose Nepomuceno in another countback after both finished with similar 83s, Antonil nipped Danny Yu by one with his 87, Mercado defeated Tiong Hee Ngo by two with a 99 while Ikeda finished one stroke ahead of Imelda Agustin.

Special awards went to So Ho Young (318 yards) for the longest drive and Jose Mari Lim for the tee-shot that came closest to the pin.

Meanwhile, Seok Ho Lee continued to lord it over among the senior citizens of the country’s biggest club with 63 holes playable, topping the separate March event for seniors in runaway fashion.

Lee was a cut above the rest with his 77 gross, his Double Peoria net of 65.8 almost four better than the next man in the standings.

The other winners were Reynaldo Villafuerte who beat Manuel Mayor and Danilo Olanosa in Group I (55-59), Benefredo Sevilla who defeated Artemio Sanchez and Lee Soo Nam in Group II (60-64 years) and Gumersindo Leuterio who edged Al Pedersen and Abelardo Aquino in Group III (65 years and above).
