Southwoods stages Chair Cup today

To cap off another fruitful year for the club, Manila Southwoods Golf and Country Club is holding its final major tournament, the Chairman’s Cup, today at the Masters and Legends courses in Carmona, Cavite.

"This is club chair Robert John Sobrepeña’s way of thanking the members of Manila Southwoods who have supported his chairmanship and his club programs," said sports and games committees chairman Freddie Mendoza.

Sobrepeña is also the chairman of the Camp John Hay Golf Club, which recently co-hosted with Baguio Country Club the highly successful 53rd Fil-Am Golf Invitational in Baguio City. CAP-Southwoods copped its fourth straight title in the FIL Division in that tournament while DHL-Mizuno won the AM Division title.

He will lead 300 members and guests who are vying for top individual honors in the 18-hole event sponsored by Accugolf, Brite Smile, Circulan, Gainers, International Elevator Equipments Inc., Miramar Tuna Belly, Nestle, Smart Communications and Wilson.

At stake as a hole-in-one prize is a brand new Mitsubishi GLS Automatic courtesy of Mitsubishi Motors. In case nobody makes an ace, the car will be raffled off during the awards ceremony.

Beautiful Italian trophies await the tournament winners while fabulous raffle prizes are up for grabs during the awards raffle.

Also to be feted during the awarding ceremony are the winners of the 2002 Manila Southwoods club championship led by overall winner Lito Abiera.

The field is divided into seven divisions: Class A, B, C, D, E, F and ladies. A separate division will be held for guests and sponsors. Shotgun starts at 9:30 a.m. at the Legends and 10 a.m. at the Masters.
