Record 8,000 runners seen in Naga elims

NAGA CITY — A record 8,000 runners -- the biggest turnout of participants in the Milo regional races —- are expected in the Naga City eliminations set Oct. 27 at the Plaza Quezon here.

Naga City Sports Council overall chairman Pedro Lee said participation will be limited only to natives and residents of the region. Last year’s 10-K race male division was ruled by veteran Bicolano runner Neri Barcelo, 34, of Goa, Camarines Sur clocking 35:05. Second placer was Philippine Air Force serviceman and Sorsogon native Mike Samson (36:21) while Sustenes Ballester Jr. (36:34) took the third place.

Naga City runners ruled the women’s division, which drew 3,500 entries. They were Joy Pardiñas, 20, (49:28), Maricel Ronquillo, 17, of Carolina National High School (53:04) and Annaliza Vargas, 21, from Naga College Foundation (56:34).
