Guiao, Aquino to be summoned
July 2, 2002 | 12:00am
Red Bull coach Yeng Guiao and Sta. Lucia Realty center Marlou Aquino will appear before PBA commissioner Jun Bernardino tomorrow afternoon and are expected to draw sanctions as a result of their ugly post-game altercation at the Araneta Coliseum last Sunday.
The Red Bull coach was on his way to the dugout moments after his team defeated the Realtors, 66-62, when Aquino suddenly came from behind, cursing the former and triggering a fiery exchange of expletives between the two.
The incident, witnessed by Purefoods and Alaska players preparing to enter the court, almost got out of hand when Guiao, barely standing 5-foot-8, challenged the 6-foot-9 Aquino to a fight anytime, anywhere.
"Its fine with me. Size doesnt matter," Guiao said in Tagalog after he and Aquino were separated.
The Sta. Lucia cager, who almost came to blows with Red Bull import Tony Lang early in the final quarter, claimed Guiao flashed a dirty finger at him shortly after the final buzzer sounded. Aquino resented the act.
The Red Bull import was also summoned by Bernardino for retaliating after he was fouled hard by Aquino on his way to the basket, leading to a double technical foul. Guiao, Aquino and Lang were summoned at the PBA office at 3:30 p.m.
Action in the Commissioners Cup resumes today with a one-game schedule pitting Talk N Text against Asian Games-bound RP-Selecta at the Astrodome. The game is set at 7 p.m.
