Bear Brand kitefest up

The 12th annual Bear Brand Kitefest promises a spectacular display of kites of varied shapes, sizes and colors in the skies over Quirino Grandstand at Rizal Park in Manila during the final leg to be held tomorrow starting at 7 a.m.

One of the most-awaited highlights of summer, particularly in Metro Manila where its finale is held, the Bear Brand Kitefest is the country’s biggest and longest running kite-flying competition. Building a tradition of promoting family togetherness since its launch in 1991, the event has attracted increasing numbers of contestants and spectators.

This year’s Bear Brand Kitefest involves 10 legs in key cities nationwide. The nine legs held to date have thrilled spectators with the sights of this ancient sport in Dumaguete, Cabanatuan, Tacloban, Naga, Puerto Princesa, Davao, Baguio, Cagayan de Oro and Kalibo.

In each leg, the Bear Brand Kitefest has three categories with contestants grouped into four divisions – Elementary, for children aged 6-12; High School, for individuals aged 13-16; College, for participants aged 17-21; and Adults, for the kite-flying enthusiasts aged 22 and above.

The Bear Brand Kitefest in Metro Manila is a free event. Spectators will also have the chance to win exciting prizes. An on-the-spot raffle will be conducted, with winners bringing home Nestle gift packs.
