Antonio edges Siodina in CAP Seniors Challenge

Roger Antonio claimed his second seniors crown in three legs of the Philippine Golf Tour as he ruled the Ericsson-Smart zed Sherwood Hills Classic despite missing the cut in the regular pro division over the weekend.

With a 76-80 aggregate at Sherwood, Antonio topped the CAP Seniors Challenge and won P20,000, thus gaining a 2-1 edge in his head-to-head duel with Mario Siodina for the senior supremacy in the circuit.

"Sumobra yata ang tanda natin para sa course," said Antonio.

The regular pro event, won by Antonio Lascuña after a thrilling shootout with Robert Pactolerin and Cassius Casas, had Ericsson, Smart zed and Sherwood Hills as joint sponsors, marking the return of the two telecommunications giant into bigtime local golf sponsorship.

Siodina fell seven strokes right at the opening round with an 83 but went two strokes short of what could have been a magnificent rally as he managed to erase only five of the huge deficit with a 75. He settled for a share of second with Yukiharu Takahashi, who stumbled with a 74 in the final round.

Bobby Utchingco claimed solo third with his 84-75 while former national team coach Roger Retuerto, the guru of Frankie Miñoza, made an impressive debut in the senior tour by tying for fourth and fifth place with Sonny Orquiza and Gerry Nadales.
