According to PTA president Robert Aventajado, winners will undergo rigorous training for participation in the US Open Championships, World Cup, Chung Chung Korea Open, Chun Chen Open, Asian Junior Championships, SEA Games, 15th World Championships and Universiade.
Around 700 taekwondo-jins from Metro Manila and the provinces are expected to see action in five divisions, namely, men and women, junior men and women and grade school.
Teams to be represented include DLSU, UE, Ateneo, San Beda, UP-Los Baños, FEU, ISM, UST, Don Bosco Makati and Mandaluyong, Las Piñas, LSGH, Baguio, Batangas, DLSU-Dasmarinas, Davao, General Santos, Cagayan de Oro, Laguna, Pampanga, Bulacan, ACTA, Naga, Bacolod, Iloilo, PMA, PAF, Army, Navy, GHQ, PNP and PMMA.
PTA vice president Sung Chon Hong says RP members will be selected according to weight categories both in the men’s and women’s divisions. The categories are fin, fly, bantam, feather, light, welter, middle and heavyweight.
Grade school competition will be based on the following height and weight: 10-11 years old, 4’2"-4’5"; 10-12, 4-5 to 4-8; 10-12, 4-8 to 4-10; 11-13, 4-10 to 5-0; and 11-13, 5-1/2 to 5-4.
Martial arts enthusiasts and sports lovers, especially children who are interested to learn the sport, are invited to attend the tourney.
