23rd Yulo Memorial tourney gets going

The 23rd Jose Yulo Memorial golf tournament gets underway today with a big field of 110 member-guest teams vying for top honors at the north and south courses of Canlubang golf complex.

Six major awards are at stake in the two-day, 36-hole tournament, including the overall team championship, individual low gross and low net honors, with defending champion Juan Miguel Montinola and Luis Marcos Laurel heading the cast in the event held in honor of the former House Speaker.

A Mitsubishi Lancer 1.6 GLS and a Mitsubishi Adventure are also up for grabs as hole-in-one prizes on designated holes while Las Vegas Pro Shop is putting up a Maxfli Revolution set for an ace on No. 13 of the south layout.

The event, to be played under the PAL (Stableford) system, features teams composed of a member and a guest or a spouse member and a guest. Any member participant will have a maximum handicap of 26 for male and 32 for female while guest participant a maximum handicap of 18 for male and 24 for female.

Tee off starts at 7 a.m. on the first day while a shotgun start is set at 8:30 a.m. the second day.

Fabulous prizes, including a Sony CTV Flat, a Sony Hollywood System and a Sony DVD Component, will also be raffled off during the awarding ceremonies to be held tomorrow at 3 p.m. at Cangolf’s clubhouse.
