PACA, PWA told to amend charter

-
The five-man Philippine Olympic Committee team tasked to investigate the controversy in two sports asssociations yesterday told the NSAs concerned to amend their respective constitution and by-laws before it could come up with its decision.

Former POC president Rene Cruz, who chairs the investigating committee, said his group found a lot of loopholes in the constitutions of the cycling and weightlifting associations and decided to let these two NSAs amend their charter first before they could proceed with the investigation.

"I just told them to amend their constitution and by-laws before we can sit down and settle the issues," said Cruz. The other members of group are Toto Africa, Salvador Andrada, Claudio Altura and Rolly Rivera.

In this regard, Cruz recommended to POC president Celso Dayrit that the PSC financial assistance to both the PACA (Philippine Amateur Cycling Association) and the PWA (Philippine Weightlifting Association) be suspended pending the amendment of their respective constitution.

PWA head Rodones Sicat said they would abide by the order even as he immediately informed club members that they would include the amendment of their constitution in their agenda on Saturday.

"We have already advised our regional members regarding the amendment (of the constitution) in our special meeting on Saturday," said Sicat. Joey Villar
