Veguillas fate known today

Did Philippine Karatedo Federation president Pocholo Veguillas yield to pressure and relinquish his post or did he decide to face the charges lodged against him by the national karatekas?

The answer will be known today when Philippine Sports Commission chair Carlos Tuason guests at the PSA Forum at the Holiday Inn where he is expected to reveal the result of his reported meeting with the PKF head at the PhilSports late last night.

Tuason, who met with the disgruntled karatekas Friday, was said to have arranged the meeting with Veguillas, who was reported to have been given the options to resign from his post or face the legal consequences of the various charges filed against him by the karatekas.

While it was widely believed that Veguillas has heeded the call for him to step down and make a graceful exit from the association he had ruled for years, a change of heart is not ruled out since Veguillas has insisted that the charges against him were baseless.

At the same time, the fact-finding body tasked by the Philippine Olympic Committee to investigate the controversy is also set to come out with its findings today.

The committee, chaired by former POC president Jose Sering, is expected to rule on the case brought up by the karatekas, who had been clamoring for the ouster of Veguillas and a top-to-bottom revamp of the organization.
