Murakami tops NGAP qualifier
Reigning national match play champion Artemio Murakami closed out with a two-over-par 74 at Cangolf's south course yesterday to top the gruelling 144-hole NGAP Qualifier for the national pool.
The 16-year-old Murakami repeated over Angelo Que, whom he beat in last year's national amateur championship at Wack Wack, with an eight-round total of 579 as he led 11 other aspirants in the pool from where the members of the national teams to various international competitions will be culled from.
Que carded a one-over 73 to finish second with 583 followed by Juvic Pagunsan (72-587), last week's DHL-NGAP Open winner Gerard Cantada (74-589), JR Tanpinco (75-520) and ex-pro Tom Concon (71-600) in that order.
Rounding up the 12 qualifiers are Jerome Delariarte (78-601), Solomon Gines (76-602), Raymund Sangil (79-608), Ruperto Zaragoza, Jr. (74-609), Marlon Dizon (77-610) and Jun Bernis (76-610).
In the women's side, Aileen Rose Yao led the eight qualifiers with a 456-aggregate after a 76 while Ruby Chico-Walker placed second with a 471 after an 80 and Lina de Guzman carded an 84 for a 474. The others who made it to the pool were Heidi Chua (81-483), Carmelette Villaroman (84-488), Mayee Cordero (82-507), Lucy Landicho (87-514) and Tracy Locsin (85-575).
