BACOLOD CITY, Philippines — A man was shot 38 times in a pension house in this city early Saturday morning, in a murder the police said could have been triggered by intense grudges.
The fatality was identified as Lauro Delgado, a resident of Brgy. Canlusong in E. B. Magalona town, Negros Occidental.
He sustained multiple gunshot wounds with the fatal ones in his head and chest. He was rushed to the hospital but was declared dead-on-arrival, according to Station 3 chief, Sr. Insp. Conrado Rances III.
Senior Supt. Ricardo De la Paz, Bacolod City Police chief, said. “There is no other way to explain this except that the gunman was very angry,” he said.
Initial investigation showed Delgado met a woman at the bar of K’mas Pension House along Lacson St. when three men who had checked in an hour earlier entered and confronted him.
The police said an argument ensued between them during which one of the three men drew a 9-mm pistol and unloaded the entire magazine into the victim, reloaded and emptied it again on Delgado.
When Delgado fell on the floor, one of the men took the victim’s .45 caliber gun and fired more shots at him.
In August 2011, Lauro Delgado Sr., the father of the victim, was brutally killed allegedly by a bandit group in relation to illegal logging activities in Brgy. Canlusong.
In December 2011, a group of bandit also reportedly burned the house of Lauro Delgado Jr. in the same barangay.
A number of killings happened in Brgy. Canlusong last year and this year, which were reportedly related to illegal logging activities especially timber poaching, police records show.
