TAGBILARAN CITY, Philippines — Dengue cases surged by a rate of 40 cases in just ten days and now reaches 1,000. From the 890 cases, with 12 deaths, recorded as of last September 12, the number rose to 930 over the next 10 days, and in the last two weeks over ten patients were rushed to Gov. Celestino Gallares Memorial Hospital.
The year-end is still two months and a half, but the number of cases this year already ranked second to the highest annual record in the last five years. The highest number of cases was recorded in 2010 with 2,647 cases.
Provincial health officer, Dr. Reymoses Cabagnot, reminded the public to continue observing the 4 o’clock habit or the usual routine of cleaning the surroundings, because dengue is preventable.
“Even one case of death from dengue is already alarming, and there have been 12 deaths already this year. The public should realize this is alarming,” he said.
Cabagnot attributed deaths from dengue to late referral to hospital, and explained that death from dengue can be prevented if the patient will be promptly given medical attention.
After the 12th death recorded on September 7 at the Provincial Health Office (PHO), there has been no additional death since then until the other day. (FREEMAN)
