ILOILO CITY, Philippines – The city government has tapped senior citizens, as it embarks on its latest project following a tour guiding seminar in partnership with the Department of Tourism-6, City Tour Guides Coop and the City Tourism Council
Mayor Jed Patrick Mabilog employed the elderly as tour guides, as he ordered the establishment of Tourism Information Center-Tour Assistance Counter (TIC-TAC) in each district plaza where they will be assigned as well as in different tourist spots around the metropolis.
Initially, 33 senior citizen tour guides underwent training for the purpose. “Our senior citizens are more than capable to entertain the visitors and tourists and tell them the city’s rich culture and heritage,” he said.
City tourism officer Benito Jimena said tour guiding and manning the TIC-TAC will be very good “anti-ageing” activities of the senior citizens.
The City Tourism and Development Office (CTDO) are finalizing plans for the TIC-TAC, which is seen to open before the city’s 75th Charter Day anniversary on August 25. — (FREEMAN)
