DUMAGUETE CITY, Philippines — The city government, through the Environment City Environment and Natural Resources Office (ENRO), will join this year’s Environment Month celebration with a series of activities under the theme, “Green Economy: Does It Include You?”
Arman Adanza of the ENRO said the city’s celebration will focus more on tree planting and cleanup drive from June 1 through 30.
On June 6, the Philippine Information Agency-Negros Oriental will hold a Kapihan sa PIA forum with DENR-7 regional executive director Maximo Dichoso, Governor Roel Degamo and Dumaguete City Mayor Manuel Sagarbarria as guest-panelists to tackle environmental issues and concerns.
Another major activity, the Civic Action Day, will be held on June 16. This will be a city-wide cleanup, where all the barangays are requested to join, Adanza said.
On June 23, the city will hold a Fun Walk and Run for the environment that will be participated by students, the community, and the religious sector.
On June 30, a Tree Growing event will be held with employees of the City Hall doing the planting with the community taking charge of the growing of the trees.
With the Environment Month celebration, the ENRO and the Negros Oriental provincial government are aiming to call on the community to act and be vigilant of the environmental problems, Adanza added. - THE FREEMAN
