Judge's wife, apo murdered

- Jennifer P. Rendon -

CEBU, Philippines - A 68-year-old wife of a Regional Trial Court judge and her granddaughter were found dead with stab wounds on the different parts of their bodies yesterday morning at the family’s pension house in Brgy. Ilaya, Barotac Nuevo, Iloilo.

The victims were identified as Sonia Amular, wife of Judge Daniel Antonio Amular of the RTC Branch 21 in Mambusao, Capiz, and 17-year-old Rubylin Deloso, who just graduated from high school.

A worker, Milo Guanzon, who was scheduled to do carpentry job, discovered the naked body of Deloso in the bathroom.

Guanzon claimed that he immediately called for help when he discovered Deloso. Shortly later, he also found Amular’s body at the garden with her rain boots still on.

Inspector Fangena of Barotac Nuevo Police Station believed that Sonia might have been working at her garden when the assailant attacked her.

Police probers were also exploring the possibility that Deloso was sexually molested or that she was taking a bath when her attacker stumbled on her. The two women could have been killed as early as Sunday afternoon.

Fangena said that Sonia sustained at least eight stab injuries. It was also apparent that a hard object was struck on her head. Deloso, on the other hand, suffered 20 wounds on the different parts of her body.

Initially, it was surmised that robbery could have been the motive of the incident, but Fangena said this was ruled it out after they learned that no important belongings were lost at the Amular’s house.

It was believed that only one person did the crime. Sonia was alone with Deloso when the incident happened.

Judge Amular was at the family’s city home during the incident like he usually does on a Sunday in preparation for his travel to work in Mambusao town.

With robbery ruled as the possible motive, Senior Supt. Gil Lebin, Iloilo Police director, said they are now considering the angles of rape and personal grudges. Someone might have harbored grudges on the Amulars, he said as he hinted that a dismissed worker was one of the possible suspects of the incident.

Meanwhile, Judge Amular said that he has not received any death threats that could be associated with the killing of his wife and her minor companion
