- Ric V. Obedencio -

TAGBILARAN CITY, Philippines  – A senior Nursing student of Holy Name University in this city has been chosen to be among the 160 youth leaders nationwide for the 9th National Youth Parliament (NYC) slated in May in Camarines Sur.

Stephen Bryan Yu Bongcaras will represent Bohol and with the region together with five others from provinces in Central Visayas.

The selection of representatives were based on their active involvement in the community, awareness on youth issues and ability to present views and perspectives.

The National Youth Commission, which is under the Office of the President, said the NYP will be a three-day event where youth leaders draft policy recommendations to address youth issues.

Stephen, a resident of Uptown in Tiptip district of this city, is the son of Roberto Bongcaras and Ma. Rowena Yu Bongcaras, both working with the provincial government. He was a recipient of Rotary Youth Award for 2012 and Most Outstanding Youth Leader award for the Provincial HIV/AIDS Multi-Sectoral Council.

Stephen was the only member of the United Nations Population Funds Youth Advisory Panel, one of six Visayas delegates to the International Youth and Volunteers Camp in Malaysia and the only Boholano participant of the First Volunteer Youth Leaders for Health Philippines National Leadership Congress.  (FREEMAN)
