DUMAGUETE CITY, Philippines – A Swiss national has recently posted bail at a Negros Oriental trial court after learning a warrant of arrest was issued against him after he was charged several months back for child abuse.
The suspect, a certain Andreas Maurer, currently residing in Guihulngan City, Negros Oriental, posted a bond of P80,000 for his temporary liberty, said Chief Insp. Errol Garchitorena, Jr., of the Guihulngan Police in a PNA report.
Maurer, who recently returned from a trip overseas, voluntarily surrendered to the police upon knowing he was wanted by the law, the police chief said.
The foreign national was earlier charged in Criminal Case No. 11-062-Z for allegedly violating provisions of Republic Act 7610 or the “”Special Protection of Children Against Abuse, Exploitation and Discrimination Act”, said Garchitorena.
The case stemmed from a complaint filed against Maurer who allegedly dropped a child while tossing him into the air off a dike in Guihulngan. Maurer was reportedly drunk when the incident happened, according to Garchitorena.
Judge Fe Lualhati Bustamante of the Regional Trial Court Branch 64 in Guihulngan had issued a warrant, dated October 18, 2011, for the arrest of the Swiss man. (FREEMAN)
