Babatngon town enacts General Ordinances Code

BABATNGON, LEYTE, Philippines — Only a few Municipal Councils in Eastern Visayas have codified books of general ordinances for implementation by the executive department, and the town of Babatngon in Leyte is now one of them.

The Babatngon Municipal Council, presided by Vice Mayor Winston Menzon, recently hosted a legislative forum highlighted by the launching of its newly enacted Ordinance 281 or the Code of General Ordinances of Babatngon.

Menzon, in his speech during the launching rites, expounded the essence of this piece of legislation, saying that not many local governments in the region had enacted this kind of ordinance.

Councilor Federico Elizaga Jr., in introducing the Code to the municipal officials, spoke on the substance of the law and discussed the meticulous process the Council underwent before its passage.

"This Code symbolizes a milestone in the annals of history of the Municipal Council of Babatngon, Leyte... another accomplishment, achievement and triumph," said Elizaga.

Mayor Charita Chan, along with Emeliana Delis who represented Municipal Trial Court Judge Romulo Casiber, Babatngon Chief of Police Insp. Eriprando Castila and municipal agriculturist Nimfa Machate, issued declarations of commitment for the implementation of the Code. - THE FREEMAN
