The Commission on Appointments (CA), in its plenary session presided over by Senate President and CA chairperson Juan Miguel Zubiri, on Wednesday (March 15, 2023) confirmed the ad interim appointments of Cheloy Velicaria-Garafil as Secretary of the Presidential Communications Office and Manuel Antonio Teehankee as Permanent Representative of the Republic of the Philippines to the World Trade Organization in Geneva, Switzerland.

MANILA, Philippines — Kinumpirma na kaha­pon ng Commission on Ap­pointments (CA) ang ad inte­rim appointment ni Atty. Cheloy Garafil bilang kalihim ng Presidential Com­munications Office (PCO).

“Bilang isang simpleng kawani ng gobyerno, isang malaking karangalan po sa akin na ako ay maimbitahan ng ating Pangulo na maging bahagi ng kanyang Gabinete. Nang ako po ay tawagin niya upang ma­ging bahagi ng PCO hindi ako nagdalawang isip sapagkat bilang isang dating journalist at public relations practitioner batid ko kung gaano kahalaga ang papel ng PCO sa pag siguro na maipahatid sa ating publiko ang tamang impormasyon ukol sa mga programa at polisiya ng gobyerno,” pahayag ni Garafil.

Kinilala naman ni Garafil na magiging mabigat ang kanyang trabaho lalo na sa panahon na mabilis na lamang makakuha ng mga impormasyon gamit ang internet.

“There is also a prolife­ration of fake news. We at PCO will have to make sure and likewise watch ourselves to ensure that we only share facts and truth,” wika ni Garafil.

Inihayag naman ni Se­nate President Juan Miguel Zubiri ang kumpiyansa nito kay Garafil sa pagsisikap at integridad nito bilang mi­yembro ng Gabinete. Suportado rin ng mga senador na sina Jinggoy Estrada, Christopher “Bong” Go, at Loren Legarda ang kumpirmasyon ni Garafil.
