Pinoy tracksters may 2 records sa SEAG

MANILA, Philippines — Naasahan din ang natio­nal athletics team sa katatapos lang na 32nd Southeast Asian Games matapos humakot ng apat na ginto tampok ang dalawang bagong records.

Nanguna sa kampan­ya ng Pinoy tracksters si Ernest John Obiena na bumasag ng rekord sa men’s pole vault event.

Nagrehistro si Obiena ng 5.65m para burahin ang 5.46m na dating marka na kanya ring naitarak noong 2021 Hanoi SEA Games sa Vietnam.

Bagama’t bigo ang Pinoy tracksters na malampasan ang limang gintong nakuha nito sa Hanoi Games, masaya pa rin si national team coach Jojo Posadas.

“It still is a successful campaign for the Philippines in terms of qua­lity, we have two games records broken here,” ani Posadas.

Maliban kay Obiena, nakaginto rin si Janry Ubas sa men’s long jump tangan ang 7.85m. Nakapilak ito sa men’s decathlon kung saan naitala rin nito ang bagong rekord sa long jump (8.08m).

Nakaginto rin si Eric Shaun Cray sa 200m meters hurdles sa bilis na 50.03 segundo.

Ito ang ikaanim na sunod na gintong medalya ni Cray sa SEA Games sa naturang event,

Wagi rin ng ginto ang 4x400 team nina Michael del Prado, Frederick Ramirez, Joyme Sequita at Umajesty Williams (3:07.22).

“You have also to look at the SEA Games in terms of the future. I think we have one in javelin (silver medalist Gennah Malapit). She’s the future,” ani Posadas.
