Torre, Sadorra Turqueza sasabak sa Chess Olympiad

MANILA, Philippines — Isinama ng National Chess Federation of the Philippines sina Grand Masters Eugene Torre, Julio Catalino Sadorra at FIDE Master Mari Joseph Turqueza sa national men’s team na sasabak sa 43rd World Chess Olympiad sa Setyembre 23 hanggang Oktubre 6 sa Batumi, Georgia.

Ipinasok din ni NCFP president at chairman Butch Pichay sina Woman GM Janelle Mae Frayna at WIMs Jan Jodilyn Fronda at Bernadette Galas sa women’s squad para makasama nina Shania Mae Mendoza, Catherine Secopito at Marie Antoinette San Diego.

Ngunit isang chess player ang aalisin ng NCFP sa koponan, kinabibilangan din nina International Masters Haridas Pascua at Jan Emmanuel Garcia, ilang linggo bago bumiyahe sa Batumi.

Gagawin naman ng 66-anyos na si Torre ang kanyang record na ika-24 Olympiad appearance bilang player habang ang United States-based na si Sadorra at Gomez ay dati nang naglalaro sa top two boards sa nakaraang mga Olympiad editions.

Tatayo din si Torre, nakamit ang individual bronze medal sa board three noong 2016 sa Baku, Azerbaijan, bilang coach at trainer ng national squad.
