Asian Jrs. Chess C’ships lalarga ngayon sa Tagaytay

MANILA, Philippines - Magsisimula ngayon ang Asian Junior Chess Championships kung saan hangad nina Filipino IMs Jan Emmanuel Garcia at Paulo Bersamina na pigilan si Indian IM Narayanan Srinath sa pagdedepensa ng titulo sa Tagaytay International Convention Center sa Tagaytay City.

Hangad nina second seed na si Garcia, kampeon sa Asian Under-18 noong nakarang taon at No. 3 na si Bersamina, isang Olympiad veteran na makapagpa-kita ng maganda sa kompetisyong lalahukan din nina FIDE Master Sumiya Bilguun ng Mongolia, Haque Siam Ikramul ng Bangladesh, Bibek Thing ng Nepal, Al Rashedi Mayed at Ahmad Al Zarouni ng United Arab Emirates at Radcliffe Paras.

Markado pa rin si  Srinath sa kanyang 2461 ra-ting kaya’t siguradong mahihirapan siyang manalo uli sa premier 20-and-under tournament na ito matapos maghari sa Sharjah, UAE noong nakaraang taon.

Panauhin si FIDE sec-gen at Rep. Abraham Tolentino sa opening ceremony sa ala-una ng hapon kasama sina DepEd assistant secretary Tonisito Umali at Asian Chess Federation executive director Casto Abundo.

Ang iba pang pambato ng Pinas sa torneong ito ay sina Shell active chess campaigners Marc Christian Nazario, Daryl Unix Samantila, John Merill Jacutina at Israelito Rilloraza.

Paborito naman si Woman IM Ivana Maria Furtado ng India sa women’s division matapos manalo sa Asian Girls Championship noong 2012 sa Uzbekistan.
