Kooperasyon sa Southeast Asian countries mungkahi ni Juico sa Singapore sports summit

MANILA, Philippines – Seryoso ang mga Southeast Asian sports leaders na makasabay sa mga malalakas na Asian nations sa athletics event.

Sa panukala ni Filipino athletics’ chief Philip ‘Popoy’ Juico, ang presidente ng Philippine Amateur Track and Field Athletic Association (PATAFA), bawat Southeast Asian nation ay tututok sa partikular na athletic field kung saan malaki ang kanilang tsansang manalo ng gintong medalya at kailangang magkaroon ng sports cooperation ang mga mi-yembro ng ASEAN (Association of Southeast Asian Nations).

Ito naman ay tinanggap ng mga dumalo sa Southeast Asian sports summit sa Singapore kamakalawa.

“My proposal was to mirror or mimic the ASEAN economic approach, but this time, in athletics. Everyone was enthusiastic about the idea, especially Malaysia, Thailand and Singapore, and soon, we will do the parameters on how this can be achieved,” sabi ni Juico.

Hangad ng nasabing panukala ni Juico na mapataas ang athletic standards ng mga mi-yembro ng ASEAN.

Idinaos ang nasabing summit dahil sa mahinang ipinakita ng mga Southeast Asian nations sa nakaraang 2014 Asian Games sa Incheon, Korea kung saan apat na gold medals lamang sa athle-tics ang kanilang nakamit mula sa kabuuang 141.

“That was less than three percent of the overall number, which was very disappointing and alarming,” wika ni Juico.

Ito ang nagtulak kay Singapore athletic fede-ration president Tang Wang Sey na sulatan ang mga member nations ng Southeast Asia at tala-kayin ang problema at hanapan ng solusyon.

Sinang-ayunan din ni pole vault legend Sergey Bubka ng Ukraine ang nasabing proposal ni Juico.
