Algieri napilitan lang lumaban sa 144lbs.

MANILA, Philippines – Maglalaban sina Manny Pacquiao at Chris Algieri sa catchweight fight na 144 pounds sa Nobyembre 23 sa pamimilit ng kampo ng Filipino boxer.

Ito ang ibinunyag ni Algieri sa isang interview ni Ben Thompson ng FightHype.com  at sinabing ginusto niyang labanan si Pacquiao sa eksaktong welterweight limit (147 pounds), ang dibisyon kung saan palagiang lu-malaban ang Filipino.

“Absolutely! Absolutely! [kung mas gusto niya ang welterweight]. And even being around him on the press tour, I think that was painfully evident that I am the bigger man even though we’re fighting in technically his weight class,” wika ng undefeated American.

“In fact, I wanted the fight to be at 147. I wanted to fight for a true welterweight title. The catchweight was on their side 100 percent,” dagdag pa nito.

Bagama’t hawak ang WBO light welterweight title, lamang na lamang ang New York-based na si Algieri sa pagkakaroon ng height advantage kay Pacquiao.

Siya ay may taas na 5-foot-10 kumpara sa 5’6 na si Pacquiao, ang WBO welterweight titlist.

Hindi na bago sa Team Pacquiao ang paghiling ng laban sa catchweight, pumupuwersa sa mas malalaki niyang kalaban na magbawas ng timbang.

Sinabi ni Algieri na walang problema sa kanya ang paglaban sa welterweight division.

Ngunit sa kanilang laban ay si Pacquiao ang masusunod.

“I’m a boxing purist. I wanted to fight for a welterweight title at 147 pounds because that’s what a welterweight is. They would not budge on that,” ani Algieri.
