Nagsimula bilang writer at reporter.

(may bangko, may insurance company, atbp!) Ang pinakahuling posisyon na hinawakan nya ay Vice President and Director of Newport World Resorts.

Sa rami ng achievements nya, nakuha nya ang People Asia’s Men Who Matter Award at ang Lifetime Achievement Recognition ng Outstanding Men and Women of the Philippines Awards. (bigyan din kaya sya ng FAMAS?!)

Nitong nakaraang buwan, sumabak sya sa panibagong hamon.  (boxing ba ito?!) Sya ay na-appoint bilang Undersecretary of the Office of the Special Assistant to the Presi-dent for Investment and Economic Affairs, (OSAP-IEA), sa ilalim ni Secretary Frederick D. Go.

“ I always had it in my heart to serve the people through the government as a way of giving back to the taxpayers who gave me the means to finish my education. I am, after all, a product of the public school system. “ Pagbabahagi ni Joee. (ay serbisyong totoo!)

Pero bakit nga ba sa Economic affairs? (lakas maka-yaman ha!)

“Why not? Hahaha! A communications post would not have been as challenging. It’s something I’ve been doing for decades now. I love doing the unexpected and taking on new challenges. I’d like to believe that I am multi-faceted person and that there’s surely more to me than just my communications persona.

“Well, I finished economics in UP, been a business reporter for a very long time and landed senior executive roles in the private sector. Modesty aside, I’d say my expertise would be in the areas of marketing, communications and management, which perfectly fits the role that I landed in government. Strategic Partnerships and Engagements involves selling to investors, local and foreign, the idea of investing in the country. My role isn’t about crunching numbers. Knowing very well our country’s economic narrative will make me a good marketing guy for Philippine business.”

“Yes, I did. In a major way. Hahaha! But you see, I have very simple needs as a person and I think I’ve been responsible enough to save up for my future while I was in the private sector. The reward of serving our people and being a part of our country’s success is of immeasurable value though. ” (magpapalibre pa naman sana ako!)

In all fairness, sa tagal ng pagkakakila ko kay Joee, alam kong magagampanan nya ng maayos (with flying colors!) ang kanyang bagong tungkulin, bilang alam ko isa sya taong matalino, masipag, mapagkakatiwalaan at may mabuting puso. (daming letter m ‘yan ha!)

“ I am here to work hard and serve them well. I don’t work to tick the box. I work to exceed expectations and succeed.

We have some very brilliant and excellent people in our economic team. I can’t be anything less, “ paglalahad ni Joee. (ay Usec Joee na pala!)
