Pag-aktong legal counsel ni VP Sara sa detenidong staff, ‘unconstitutional’

MANILA, Philippines — Kinuwestyon ng isang mambabatas ang ginawang pag-akto ni Vice President Sara Duterte bilang legal counsel ng detenido nitong Chief of Staff na si Atty. Zuleika Lopez habang sinisilbihan ng transfer order ng kanyang kulu­ngan, at sinabing labag ito sa itinatadhana ng 1987 Constitution.

Ayon kay Chua Manila 3rd District Rep. Joel Chua, chairman ng House Committee on Good Government and Public Accountability na nag-iimbestiga sa umano’y irregularidad sa paggasta sa P500 milyong confidential fund ng Office of the Vice President (OVP) at P112.5-M naman sa DepEd na dati ring pinamumunuan ni VP Sara, na ipinagbabawal sa Saligang Batas para sa Presidente, Bise Presidente at maging sa mga opisyal ng Gabinete na gumanap ng ibang propes­yon tulad ng pagpapraktis sa batas habang nakaupo sa puwesto.

“The President, Vice-President, the Members of the Cabinet, and their deputies or assistants shall not, unless otherwise provided in this Constitution, hold any other office or employment during their tenure. They shall not, during said tenure, directly or indirectly practice any other profession…,” paliwanag pa ni Chua sa isinasaad ng Section 13, Article VII ng 1987 Constitution.

Ginawa ni Chua ang pahayag nang tangkaing harangin ni VP Duterte ang paglilipat kay Lopez sa Correctional Institute for Women (CIW) sa Mandaluyong City at nagsabing siya muna ang tatayong abogado ni Lopez saka kinuwestiyon ang konstitusyonalidad sa nasabing proseso.
