MANILA, Philippines — Ang paghablot sa bronze medal sa 2024 Southeast Asia V. League first leg ay simula pa lamang ng pag-angat ng Alas Pilipinas men’s team.
Ngunit marami pang dapat gawin para mangyari ito, ayon kay Italian coach Angiolino Frigoni.
“We’re still not on that level. We have to improve not just our skills, but also our mentality,” wika ng 70-anyos na mentor sa mga Pinoy spikers. “We need experience. We need time. We need more matches.”
Tinapos ng Alas Pilipinas Men ang first leg ng SEA V.League sa 1-2 record kung saan nila tinalo ang Vietnam bago yumukod sa Indonesia at Thailand.
Ang mga Thais (3-0) ang umangkin sa gold medal, habang ang mga Indonesians (2-1) ang sumikwat sa silver at kulelat ang mga Vietnamese (0-3).
“It’s a bronze medal. It’s better to start with a bronze medal than start without a medal. But for me, we are just starting, we only played in this competition this year,” ani Frigoni, isang two-time Olympian at naging coach ng Italian women’s team noong 1992 Barcelona at 2000 Sydney Games.
Inirekomenda siya ng FIVB sa Philippine National Volleyball Federation (PNVF) noong 2023.
“I am not thinking of the bronze, I am thinking on how to improve this team. To play in the next competition better together and with a better goal,” wika ni Frigoni.
Sa pagkakaroon ng injury nina Bryan Bagunas at Marck Espejo ay sumandal ang tropa kina Kim Malabunga at Buds Buddin para sa kanilang podium finish.
Hinirang si Malabunga bilang Second Best Middle Blocker at tinanghal si Buddin na Second Best Outside Spiker.
Idaraos ang SEA V.League second leg sa Indonesia sa susunod na linggo.
Pinaghahandaan ng Alas Pilipinas men ang 2025 FIVB Volleyball Men’s World Championship.
