House of POC hiling ni Tolentino
MANILA, Philippines — Sa ika-100 taong partisipasyon ng Pilipinas sa Olympic Games ay wala pa ring sariling tahanan ang Philippine Olympic Committee (POC).
Ito ang personal na hiniling ni POC president Abraham “Bambol” Tolentino kay Pangulong Bongbong Marcos, Jr. sa welcome dinner para sa mga Filipino Olympians mula sa Paris sa pangunguna ni double gold medalist gymnast Carlos Edriel Yulo noong Martes sa Malacañang.
“The President was receptive to the proposal and I’m hopeful our vision would be realized this time,” sabi ni Tolentino kahapon sa pagdalo niya sa The Agenda media forum sa Club Filipino sa San Juan.
Simula nang lumahok ang bansa sa Olympics noong 1924 sa Paris ay wala pa ring sariling tahanan ang POC hanggang ngayon.
“Call it pathetic but after a hundred years in the Olympics, we still don’t have a house of our own,” ani Tolentino. “Timor Leste, the smallest among Southeast Asian countries, in fact, has a national Olympic committee headquarters complete with all amenities … the works.”
Nang mabuhat ni weightlifter Hidilyn Diaz-Naranjo ang kauna-unahang Olympic gold medal ng Pinas noong 2021 Tokyo Games ay hiniling din ng POC chief na magkaroon sila ng sariling gusali.
Sa nasabi ring edisyon ng quadrennial event sinuntok nina boxers Nesthy Petecio at Carlo Paalam ang dalawang silver medals, habang may bronze si Eumir Felix Marcial.
“My vision about the House of POC includes a museum where the memorabilia of our great athletes, including those of Caloy (Carlos Yulo) and Hidilyn (Diaz-Naranjo), could be viewed by Filipinos,” wika ni Tolentino.
Humingi siya ng tulong sa Malacañang para sa proyekto at inirekomenda ang isang bahagi sa Cultural Center of the Philippines (CCP) Complex.
Ngunit hindi ito natuloy.
“It would be ideal for the House of POC to be close to the airport for accessibility of foreign sports dignitaries who will come for official functions or for a visit,” ani Tolentino.
Nag-opisina ang POC sa Rizal Memorial Sports Complex at ngayon ay sa Philsports Complex.
