Overall title ‘di nakawala sa Pinoy squad

MANILA, Philippines - Humakot ng anim na gintong medalya ang Pilipinas sa table tennis event ng 1st  Asia Pacific Univer­sity Games (APUG) na gi­na­nap sa Cebu City.

Binanderahan nina University of Cebu standouts Dannel Jay Tormis (men’s singles) at Diana Oliverio (women’s singles) ang kampanya ng Pilipinas matapos angkinin ang gintong medalya sa kani-kanilang dibisyon.

Nakatiyak din ng ginto ang Pilipinas sa men’s team, women’s team, men’s doubles at mixed doubles upang makuha ang overall title sa torneong inorganisa ng Fe­deration of School Sports Association of the Philippines.

Tanging ang women’s doubles lamang ang humulagpos sa kamay ng Pinoy squad nang makuha ito ng Universiti Teknologi Mara (UTM)-Malaysia.

Sa badminton, nagkasya sa apat na pilak at pitong tanso ang Pilipinas matapos walisin ng powerhouse UTM-Malaysia ang lahat ng limang gintong me­dalya - men’s singles, women’s singles, men’s doubles, women’s doubles at team event.

Ang pilak ng host team ay mula kina John Michael Guibranza (men’s singles), Hannah Alyssa Guibranza at Jomarie Alterado (women’s doubles), Dexter Opalla at Aijun Penute (men’s doubles), at sa Philippines-1 (team event).

Galing naman ang mga tanso kina She­mae Grace Cabaluna at Jenny Rose Ramirez (women’s doubles); Scott Weel Busario at Gideon John Obsemares, Benny Pelito at Christian Paul Cayna (men’s doubles); Jenny Rose Ramirez at Shemae Grace Cabaluna (women’s singles); Christian Paul Cayna (men’s singles); at sa Philippines-2 (team event).
