PBA pumayag na iatras ang Governors Cup

MANILA, Philippines - Maaari nang magsa­nay sa loob ng dalawang buwan ang Gilas Pilipinas bilang paghahanda sa ma­bigat na 2013 FIBA-Asia Men’s Championships na nakatakda sa Agosto 1-11 sa SM MOA Arena sa Pasay City.

Ito ay matapos puma­yag ang PBA Board of Governors na iatras ang pag­daraos ng 2013 PBA Governors Cup sa hu­ling linggo ng Agosto at tapusin sa dulo ng Oktubre, habang sisimulan naman ang Commissioner’s Cup sa Pebrero 8 at isasara sa huling linggo ng Mayo.

“I had a very positive and productive talk with our team owners. Not only have they agreed to lend their players, they rea­dily okayed moving the 3rd conference until after the FIBA-Asia tourney,” sabi ni PBA Commissioner Chito Salud.

“As I have said, when good men reason together, the outcome is inevitably beneficial to everyone. In this case, our owners placed national interest above all considerations. I am so proud of the PBA,” dagdag pa ni Salud.

Ang pag-apruba sa gagawing pagbabago sa iskedyul ng PBA Governors Cup ay gagawin bukas sa ipinatawag na special board meeting.

Ang top three teams sa 2013 FIBA-Asia Men’s Championships ang siyang mabibigyan ng tiket patungo sa 2014 FIBA World Basketball Championships sa Spain.

Huling nagkampeon ang bansa sa FIBA-Asia Men’s Championships noong 1973 sa likod nina Robert Jaworski, Mon Fernandez, Francis Arnaiz, Abet Guidaben, Jimmy Mariano, Dave Regullano, Manny Paner, Alberto ‘Big Boy’ Reynoso, Joy Cleofas, Yoyong Martirez at Tembong Melencio sa ilalim ni coach Tito Eduque.
