Hosting ng FIBA-Asia Championship ipinasa sa Pilipinas mula sa Lebanon
MANILA, Philippines - Ang Pilipinas na ang maÂÂÂngangasiwa sa 27th FIBA-Asia Men’s ChampionÂships na magsisilbing qualifying event para sa 2014 FIBA World Cup sa Spain.
Ito ay matapos magÂdesisÂyon ang FIBA-Asia ExeÂcutive Committee na igaÂwad sa bansa ang hosÂting rights mula sa Lebanon na kasalukuyang pinaghaÂhaÂrian ng tensyon.
“Unfortunately, the current situation in the region and the on-going civil war in Syria, which has its indirect effect on the countries in the whole of West Asia, especially on Lebanon, creates doubts about the stability that we might not have, at least, till the fixed dates of our event,†sabi ni FIBA-Asia SecÂretary General Hagop KhaÂjirian sa website ng world basketball body.
Nakatakda ang 2013 FIBA-Asia Men’s ChamÂpionship sa Agosto 1 hanggang 11.
“SBP is pleased to accept this rare privilege of hosÂting the FiBA-Asia ChamÂpionship – a similar event we last hosted 40 years ago,†sabi ni SamaÂhang Basketbol ng Pilipinas preÂÂsident ManÂny V. PangiÂlinan sa kanÂyang pahayag.
Ang bansa ang isa sa mga naging bidders sa puÂlong ng FIBA-Asia Executive Committee noong SetÂyembre kung saan ibinigay sa Lebanon ang hosting rights.
Huling nangasiwa ang banÂsa ng malaking basketÂball event noong 1973 paÂÂra sa FIBA-Asia Men’s ChamÂpionship na idinaos sa Maynila.
