HLURB to open subdivisions to motorists

Jose Rodel Clapano - Pilipino Star Ngayon

MANILA, Philippines - The Housing and Land Use Regulatory Board (HLURB) is planning to open subdivisions to motorists for free to help ease traffic in Metro Manila, Vice President Jejomar Binay said Monday.

In a television interview, Binay said the HLURB can open the subdivisions to the public because it has jurisdiction over all subdivisions nationwide.

He said the HLURB is talking with stakeholders pertaining to its plan.

The HLURB is also looking at regulating the “exorbitant” fees subdivisions charge motorists.

“That is one thing that the HLURB is studying right now. For example, someone is having a construction of their house and trucks carrying sand and other construction materials are making a delivery to the village, thousands are being paid for that. We are looking on how to regulate the exorbitant fees in subdivisions,” Binay said.

He said public interest is “at stake” as the government searches for solutions to traffic problems in Metro Manila and other provinces all over the country, warning that “it will be worse in the coming months.”

Binay said subdivisions can issue stickers to non-resident motorists who pass through villages and subdivisions.

“This will be regulated from 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. with a window (period),” he said.
