Rains to persist due to 4 weather systems

MANILA, Philippines —  Four weather systems are bringing cloudy skies and rains over many parts of the country after Christmas Day, according to the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA).

The shear line is affecting southern and Central Luzon, while the intertropical convergence zone is affecting the eastern section of Mindanao.

The northeast monsoon will bring cloudy skies with rains over the Cagayan Valley and Cordillera Administrative Region. It will bring isolated light rains over the Ilocos Region.

A tropical cyclone, formerly Romina, was monitored 475 kilometers west of Kalayaan in Palawan.

Heavy to intense rains are expected today over Aurora, Quezon, Camarines Norte, Camarines Sur and Catanduanes.

Metro Manila, Central Luzon, Calabarzon, Mimaropa, Bicol Region and Eastern Visayas will see scattered rains due to the shear line.

Scattered rains are forecast over Northern Mindanao, Caraga, Davao Region and Soccsksargen.

“Aside from the weather disturbance we are monitoring outside the Philippine area of responsibility, we are not monitoring any other storms or LPAs,” PAGASA weather specialist Veronica Torres said.

Cash aid

Over P480 million in cash aid has been released by the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) for some provinces in Davao, which have been affected by a low-pressure area.

The LPA affected 58,489 families in the region.

The cash aid was released recently during simultaneous emergency cash transfer payouts in Davao del Norte, Davao de Oro and Davao Oriental, DSWD Disaster Response Management Group head Irene Dumlao said. – Sheila Crisostomo
