Taliwas sa inaakala na ang carbs ay hindi nakakataba at ito ay nagbo-boost ng mood. Ayon sa pag-aaral ng Archives Internal Medicine, kung ang goals ay low-carbohydrate diet na pinapayagang 20-40 grams ng carbs araw-araw na halos ½ cup ng rice plus isang bread ay mas nakararanas ng depression, anxiety, at galit kaysa sa low-fat, high-carb diet na ang pokus ay sa  low-fat dairy, whole grains, fruits, at beans.

Sa research, ang carbs ay nagpo-promote ng production ng serotonin na nagpapaganda ng pakiramdam sa chemical ng  brain. Malaking challenge rin na maging restrikto sa low-carb diet sa loob ng isang tao na mayroong negatibong impact sa mood.
