Olympic gold pakay nina pagdanganan, Ardina

PARIS — Sina lady golfers Bianca Pagda­nganan at Dottie Ardina na lamang ang natitirang lu­malaban mula sa 22-strong Team Philippines dito sa 2024 Olympic Games.

Nasa medal contention ang 26-anyos na si Pagdanganan papasok sa huling dalawang rounds ng women’s golf, habang tumabla si Ardina sa ika-36 place dito sa Le Golf National.

Nagtapos sa labas ng top 40 sa 2021 Tokyo Games, nasa magandang katayuan ngayon si Pagdanganan matapos pumalo ng isang three-under 69 tampok ang arangkada sa dulo ng second round.

Papasok sa third round ay nasa top five sina Metraux, Yin Ruoning ng China, Lydia Ko ng New Zealand, Mariajo Uribe ng Colombia at Pia Babnik ng Slovakia.

Kasosyo ni Pagdanganan sa sixth spot sina first-day leader Celine Boutier ng France, Thai Atthaya Thitikul, Japanese Miyu Yamashita, South African Ashleigh Buhai at Chinese Janet Lin.

Nakatutok ang spotlight kay Pagdanganan na ipinagmamalaki ang nakakabit na Philippine flag patch sa kanyang t-shirt.

“It was just more of me representing the Phi­lippines. It’s something bigger than yourself,” ani Pagdanganan. “I compete in the LPGA but I just feel like it was just me.”

“For the Olympics, it feels like you are chosen to represent and I feel like it’s a bigger responsibility,” dagdag ng miyembro ng gold-winning Philippine team sa 2018 Palembang-Jakarta Asian Games.

Sa weightlifting, nagtala si John Ceniza ng DNF (Did Not Finish) card sa pagsisimula ng laban ng weightlifting team kasunod ang sixth-place finish ni Elreen Ann Ando sa women’s 59kg category sa South Paris Arena.
