3 chess titles itataya ni Frayna sa grandfinals

MANILA, Philippines — Idedepensa ni Women Grand Master (WGM) Janelle Frayna ang kanyang tatlong titulo sa pagsulong ng Philippine Women’s Chess Championship Grand Finals sa Nobyembre 29 sa Philippine Academy for Chess Excellence (PACE).

Si Frayna ang three-time reigning champion sa standard chess, blitz at rapid events at inaasahang patuloy na magdodomina sa week-long tournament.

Ang nasabing torneo ay bahagi ng paghahanda ng national team para sa 19th Asian Games sa Hangzhou, China at sa Asian Indoor and Martial Arts Games (AIMAG) sa Thailand sa 2023.

Pero ayaw magkumpiyansa ng 25-anyos na tubong Albay sa makakatapat niyang mga elite players sa tatlong kategorya.

“If you will relax, hindi mo mamamalayan mapapalitan ka na next year,” wika ng tubong Albay kahapon sa Philippine Sportswriters Association (PSA) Forum na idinaos sa ground floor ng Rizal Memorial Sports Complex. “So you should always be at your best.”

Makakaharap ni Frayna sina Women’s International Master (WIM) Jan Jodilyn Fronda, WIM Beverly Mendoza, WIM Bernadette Galas at WIM Marie Antoinette San Diego.

Nakasama ni Frayna sina National Chess Federation of the Philippines (NCFP) Executive Officer GM Jayson Gonzales at NOVA Wellness store president Vincent Travis Chua sa sesyong inihandog ng San Miguel Corporation (SMC), MILO, Philippine Sports Commission, Philippine Olympic Committee at Philippine Amusement and Gaming Corporation (PAGCOR).

Ang torneo ay isang single round robin, ayon kay Gonzales.
