Cray manonorpresa sa Asiad

JAKARTA—Malaki ang tsansa ni Fil-Am tracks­ter Eric Shawn Cray na maitakbo ang gold medal sa men’s 400-meter hurdles sa 18th Asian Games.

Ito ay kung maduduplika niya ang kanyang iti­nakbo sa semifinals ng Olympic Games noong 2016 sa Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.

Tatakbo si Cray ngayong alas-11 ng umaga sa qua­lifying ng 400m hurdles.

Huling nanalo ng me­dalya ang Pilipinas sa ath­letics event ng Asian Games noong 1994 sa Hi­roshima kung saan lumundag ng bronze medal si Elma Muros-Posadas.

Nagposte ang 29-an­yos na si Cray ng bilis na 49.37 segundo sa semifinals ng Rio Olympics.

Noong 2014 Incheon Asian Games ay nagtala ng 49.71 segundo si gold me­dal winner Ali Khamis ng Bahrain.

“If everything goes right, many of our athle­tes can spring some sur­pri­ses,” sabi ni Philippine Athletics Track and Field Association president Dr. Philip Ella Juico.

Kumuha ang two-time 400m hurdles king ng SEA Games (Myanmar at Singapore) ng gold medal sa 400m hur­­dles ng 2017 Asian Ath­letics Championships at sil­ver medal sa 600m run ng 2017 Asian Indoor and Martial Arts Games.

Nagtala si Cray ng 51.47 segundo sa Incheon no­ong 2014 Asiad.
