Powerlifters palaban sa Prague World Championships

MANILA, Philippines - Tanging mga potential medal winners lamang ang kasama sa four-man Philippine team na sasabak sa 2015 World Junior &Sub-Junior Powerlifting Championship sa Prague, Czech Republic.

Sina Regie Ramirez, Jasmine Martin, Joan Masangkay at Jeremy Reign Bautista ang napili ng Powerlifting Association of the Philippines (PAP) na ipadala sa Aug. 31 to Sept. 5 meet matapos manalo ang apat na ito sa Asian Powerlifting Championship sa Hong Kong noong nakaraang buwan.

“We want to make sure na ang lahat ng ipadadala natin ay magkakamedalya. We want that our athletes are all deserving,” sabi ni PAP president Eddie Torres sa Philippine Sportswriters Association (PSA) Forum kahapon sa Shakey’s Malate.

May kabuuang 223 athletes ang kalahok sa two-category event na hinati sa Sub-Junior (14-18-years-old) at Junior (19-23-years-old).

Sina Ramirez (men’s 59 kg) at Martin (women’s 47 kg) ay sasali sa Juniors category habang si Bautista (women’s 47 kg) at Masangkay (women’s 43 kg) ay sa Sub-Juniors side.

Sina Bautista at Masangkay na parehong dumalo sa session na hatid ng San Miguel Corp., Shakey’s, Accel at ng Philippine Amusement and Gaming Corp. kasama ang head of delegation na si Aspi Calagopi ay ngayon pa lamang sasabak sa world sa unang pagkakataon.

Ikalawang sunod na taon ito nina Martin at Ramirez sa world championships matapos manalo ng apat na silvers at tatlong bronze medals noong nakaraang taon.

Ang koponan na sasamahan nina coach Betina Bordeos ay aalis patu-ngong Prague sa Biyernes.

“Our four athletes are very well conditioned because they competed in the Asian Powerlifting just one month ago,” sabi pa ni Calagopi.
