Shakey’s V-League hahataw na sa Linggo
MANILA, Philippines - Gagawa uli ng marka ang Shakey’s V-League sa pagselebra ng kanilang ika-11 taon sa paghahandog ng aksyon sa women’s basketball.
Bubuksan ang season sa pamamagitan ng liga para sa mga collegiate teams at hindi lamang ito bukas para sa mga koponan mula National Capital Region, Luzon at Visayas dahil may kasali rin mula sa Mindanao.
“Davao Lady Agilas will be made up of selection of players from Davao because wala pang volleyball league doon. But I have talked with Ateneo de Davao athletic director Butch Ramirez and he informed us that they will form a volleyball league next year and the champion will play in V-League. So the league will truly be representing NCR, Luzon, Visayas and Mindanao,†wika ni Mauricio ‘Moying’ Martelino, chairman ng nag-o-organisang Sports Vision sa PSA Forum sa Shakey’s Malate kahapon.
Sasali rin sa unang pagkakataon ang St. Louis University ng Baguio City upang magkaroon ng record na 12 teams ang magsusukatan sa kompetisyong magbubukas na sa Linggo sa The Arena sa San Juan City.
Ang UAAP champion Ateneo ay makakasama ng St. Louis U, Arellano, Adamson, St. Benilde at CESAFI champion Southwestern University sa Group A habang ang NCAA titlist Perpetual Help at Davao ay nasa Group B kasama ang FEU, San Sebastian, UST at ang nagdedepensang kampeon na National University.
Ang Sports Vision president na si Ricky Palou at tournament commissioner Tony Boy Liao ay dumalo rin habang ang tagapagtaguyod ng liga na Shakey’s ay kinatawan nina EVP at COO Vic Gregorio, brand manager Koi Castillo at marketing head Chez Manalaysay.
“Eleven years ago, it was just basketball. The late Jun Bernardino pushed for the formation of a women’s volleyball and now, women’s volleyball is now a huge success,†pagpupugay ni Gregorio. “Sports Vision has found a way to improve the league and it is our obligation to ensure that the league continues to grow up in scale and on level. That is our mission from the start and we have already seen the results,†pagmamalaki pa ni Gregorio.
Ang opening ceremony ay itinakda sa ganap na ika-1 ng hapon sa Linggo bago sundan ng bakbakan sa hanay ng Lady Eagles at Lady Falcons dakong alas-2 at Lady Bulldogs at Lady Altas dakong alas-4. (AT)
