Villanueva nasa Air21 na kapalit nina Matias at Sharma

MANILA, Philippines - Sinang-ayunan kahapon ng PBA Commissioner’s Office ang pagdadala ng Air21 kina Ronnie Matias at Carlo Sharma sa Globalport kapalit ni 6-foot-6 veteran center Rico Villanueva.

Maglalaro ang 33-anyos na si Villanueva, tinaguriang “The Raging Bull” para sa kanyang pang-pitong koponan sa PBA matapos hirangin bilang seventh overall pick noong 2003 Draft.

“I’ve been eyeing him since the last conference. After Asi, we don’t really have a solid big guy, somebody who can adapt to the physicality in the PBA,” sabi ni Express coach Franz Pumaren kay Villanueva. “He gives us additional depth in our big guys.”

“We’re looking at using him in the third confe-rence. He’s still doing his rehab and we’re looking at preparing him for the next conference.”

Napanood lamang ang dating Blue Eagle sa isang laro para sa Batang Pier sa nakaraang 2014 Philippine Cup kung saan siya nagtala ng 1 rebound sa loob ng dalawang minuto.

Ang torn ACL sa kanyang kanang tuhod ang nagpabagal kay Villanueva sapul noong 2012.

Kamakailan ay ibinigay ng Air21 si forward Vic Manuel sa Alaska para mabingwit si Aldrech Ramos matapos isabit si guard Jonas Villanueva sa Globalport sa isang four-team trade.

“It’s the decision between the coaches and the management. Si Ronnie naman, makakatulong siya sa three-spot namin para may kapalitan si J-Wash (Jay Washington),” wika naman ni Batang Pier mentor Pido Jarencio kay Matias.

Ito ang ikalawang sunod na pagkakataon na sa dalawang komperensya na nasangkot si Matias sa trade matapos maglaro para sa Rain or Shine at Air21.

Samantala, ibinigay ng PBA sa Mall of Asia Arena ang pangangasiwa sa 2014 PBA All-Star Weekend na nakatakda sa Abril 3-6.
