Ang ginamit sa FIBA-ASIA lottery bakit ‘Pure’ Draw sytem?
MANILA, Philippines - Pinangatuwiranan ni FIBA-Asia secretary-general Hagop Khajirian ng Lebanon ang ‘pure’ draw system na ginamit sa lottery ng continental cham-pionships sa Manila Hotel kamakalawa.
Ang ‘pure’ system ang pumalit sa kinagawiang ikinakalat ang top four seeds sa apat na grupo upang maiwasan ang maaga nilang paghaharap-harap.
“Through the years, we’ve seen FIBA-Asia evolve and now, we’ve got at least 10 countries who are legitimate championship contenders,†sabi ni Khajirian. “In this situation, we decided to go with the random system of a ‘pure’ draw to give every team equal chances to enter a group without prior seeding.â€
Sa ‘modified’ system base sa standings sa FIBA-Asia Cup sa Tokyo noong nakaraang taon, ang apat na grupo ay pinangunahan sana ng Iran, Japan, Qatar at China. Bagkus ay ang Iran at China ay napunta sa Group C kasama ang South Korea at isang Southeast Asian entry base sa sub-zone qualifiers sa Medan, Indonesia, sa June 20-23.
Humanga si Khajirian sa propesyunal na pagtatanghal ng event ng Solar TV production sa pangangasiwa ng Samahang Basketbol ng Pilipinas (SBP).
“If this is an example of the capability of our host country, we should be treated to a grand show at the Championships,†aniya. “As for the Filipino fans, I think their passion for the game is unmatched.â€
Sinabi ni SBP executive director Sonny Barrios na ang ‘pure’ system ay patunay sa balanseng lakas ng mga teams sa FIBA-Asia.
Sinabi ni Khajirian na bilang host country, ang Philippines ay maaring pumili ng schedule sa first round-- kung sino ang unang kakalabanin sa Jordan, Chinese-Taipei at Saudi Arabia sa Group A at maaaring lumabas sa Lunes ang tournament schedule kung makakapagbigay na ang Philippines ng schedule nitong weekend.
